Born on May 29,  1903, Bob has been an institution as a variety artist. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOB" was a multi-star show celebrating Bob Hope's 80th birthday.

Filmed live at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, this was the first of his specials in which Lynda Carter appeared.

EPISODE SYNOPSIS: Bob Hope celebrates his 80th birthday (a week early) at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Frank Sinatra sings a hits medley set to a ballet danced by Mikhail Baryshnikov and Twyla Tharp. Brooke Shields, Cheryl Tiegs and Christie Brinkley head up a 1930s-styled production number parodying "I Can't Give You Anything but Love, Baby." There's a choreographed boxing match (described by Howard Cosell) pitting Sugar Ray Leonard against middleweight champ Marvelous Marvin Hagler. And, in a more traditional vein, best wishes are conveyed in song, salutation and comedy by Bob's wife Dolores, Lucille Ball, George Burns, Lynda Carter, Kathryn Crosby, Phyllis Diller, Sheena Easton, Spanish pop star Julio Iglesias, Ann Jillian, Loretta Lynn, Barbara Mandrell, Dudley Moore, George C. Scott, Tom Selleck, Flip Wilson and Kermit the Frog.

[•] Bob Hope television specials became a trademark and undeniable classics in the history of television. Many famous stars made their TV debuts in his specials, among them Frank Sinatra.
