TV SUPERGIRLS Joyce DeWitt, Cindy Williams and Lynda Carter are winning the battle of the bulge with their own individual superdiets.

      Joyce does it with a regimen that can take off a pound a day. Cindy keeps religiously to a health-spa diet. And Lynda keeps her curves under control with vegetables and an Amazonian exercise plan.

      But while their methods differ, the result is the same-a slimmer and happier star. Here is how each has done it: Cindy Williams shed pounds with `miracle'

      A TV faith healer gave Cindy Williams the strength to stick to an extreme diet.

      Determined to take off ugly pounds, the Laverne & Shirley star checked into The Palms in Palm Springs. a luxury health spa. for a five-day stay.

      "I did real well until the last night," she said. "I was in a cold sweat from dieting. I kept on having visions of maple syrup, butter and piles of bacon and eggs.

      "I turned on the television to try to get the visions of fattening food out of my mind. And, for me, there was a miracle.

      "Ernest Ainsley (the popular West Coast faith healer and TV minister) was giving a sermon. I cried out to him for help. I said: 'Ernest, heal me!'

      "Somehow my hunger pains went away and I made it through the night."

      That TV experience made all the difference in the world to the weight-plagued star. Although Cindy refused to weigh herself in or out of the health spa a friend followed the same regimen and lost a pound each day. Now, she's keeping her new trim figure by sticking to the health-spa diet and doing regular exercise. "During the Laverne & Shirley rehearsals, I spend three periods a week working out in private yoga classes," she said. "It's fantastic for both the mind and the body." Cindy's health spa diet is shown below.

      For Cindy, who had been plagued by weight problems for years, her newfound victory is a dream come true.

      She had tried dozens of diets, "but I've never stuck to one all the way through."

      Then came a crisis. "I knew it was time to do something desperate when the wardrobe lady on Laverne & Shirley told me she could only get me into a pair of jeans if I lay down," Cindy said.

      "There was no alternative but to lose weight as quickly as possible." That was when she checked into a fat farm-and came across Ernest Ainsley.

      Now that she's lost the excess weight, Cindy said she was feeling marvelous.

      "When you are fat, you get terribly depressed." she said. "It's worth losing weight for the mental state it puts you in-plus the fact that you look so much better."

      `Dumpy' Joyce DeWitt becomes a sex symbol. BUBBLY Joyce DeWitt remembers the exact moment she found the strength to attack her lifetime overweight problem-and again it was TV that helped her.

      "The whole thing started when I saw Nathan Pritikin, the diet expert, on a TV talk show," she recalled. "I loved what he had to say about creating a healthy body.

      The Three's Company star, who admitted that she was "dumpy" when the series began, was so impressed that she followed much of what he set down in his book, The Pritikin Program For Diet And Exercise, "though I have adapted some of it to make a healthier, slimmer life for myself."

      Joyce, who once ballooned to 130 lbs., today has trimmed off 24 lbs. to stay at her current weight of 106 shapely lbs. on her 5 ft. 3 in. frame.

      She went on the diet as soon as her weekly show broke for vacation last summer. It allows her 600 to 1,000 calories a dayeffective enough, Joyce said, for anyone to lose an amazing one pound a day.

      "There's a lot of no's I've adopted," she said.

      "No butter. No salt. No coffee. No tea. Absolutely no alcohol or fried foods. I'm just going to make my body outrageously healthy."

      Is a daily struggle, though. "I still might go on a binge and gain two extra pounds almost overnight," said Joyce, who loves cheeseburgers and potatoes. "But I know that with my diet I can also lose it overnight." She has found unexpected byproducts from her amazing diet. "It clears up basic depression, she said. "I am in a better state of mind, more at peace and have a happier view of life.

      "It also clears up such problems as sleeplessness."

      Joyce's special diet rules out stuffing herself. Instead. she eats small amounts eight times a day.

      "Eight little meals spread out through the day are much better than three huge ones when you gorge yourself," she said.

      "The way we eat as Americans is dangerous."

      Restaurants make it hard on a dieter by being overgenerous, she said. "It's outrageous the huge amount of food they serve. For me, I'm quite happy starting with a little salad and having a shrimp cocktail as the main dish with a baked potato."

      And she adds this pointer: "If you're really serious about weight consciousness. the best tip I've learned is to take the redskinned potatoes without butter. They're the best."

Lynda Carter's secret weapon

      WONDER WOMAN Lynda Carter's secret diet weapon has nothing to do with space-age technology. It's vegetables.

      "I'm almost a vegetarian," the curvy beauty admitted. "I've always enjoyed eating vegetables."

      Cooked or raw in salads. Lynda depends on vegetables to keep her stunning 5 ft. 8 in. body in fighting trim. In her case, that's exactly 122 pounds.

      Her other secret weapon is exercise. "I do every kind of physical exercise you can think of," she said. "I run a mile and a half a day.

      "I work with light weights. I do 250 leg lifts in the morning. I ride a stationary bike and do stretches. I play tennis.

      "If I happen to be on location where there's an Olympic-sized pool available, I can do as many laps as 1 n squeeze in. a "When you start running, I know the first three days are grueling but by the fourth day you start feeling good.

      Lynda also watches her cholesterol intake, is careful of nitrates and shuns convenience foods. She refuses td eat microwave cooking "I just don't trust them, he said.

      "I think your eating habits a established when you're young and I'm thankful my diet included lots of salads and fresh vegetables."

      The fervor goes beyond her eating habits. She doesn't drink liquor make-that separates you from God, she said. "Besides, smoking will inkle your skin faster."

      Lynda's appearance is very natural and she has none of the primping mannerisms of some glamorous women. "I don't usually wear any makeup at home," she said.

      "I spend so m y hours a day getting poked and rodded by makeup people on the set that I prefer to do my own egg facials when I can."

      When it comes to eating, many of her favorite vegetarian dishes are Mexěcan. She's loved Mexican cooking since her years growing up in Tempe, Ariz., where her maternal Mexican grandmother used to cook for her.

      Lynda's weight problems began when she was 14 and went to stay with an aunt.

      "My diet changed," she said. "I still wasn't really fat but I was much heavier than I wanted to be."

      Since then, Lynda has learned to be more conscious of what she eats.

      "I can still sit in front of the television and eat a bowl of potato chips," she said. "But usually I avoid very fattening or fried foods."

      She rarely drinks alcohol, but she does admit a weakness for low-calorie cold beer. "Delicious," she said. She also has a surprising tip for those who want to stay beautiful and fresh-looking the natural way: "I drink a gallon of water every day," she said.

      "I feel it not only cleans my skin both in side and out but it also completely washes everything through my Lynda, who grows her own vegetables, said that if she starts to put on weight she drops her food intake instantly down to just one lunchtime salad each day.

      But her normal daily menu consists of:

Breakfast: Fresh orange or apple juice. No tea or coffee. Water.

Lunch: Green salad; many different fresh vegetables with her own home made dressing of oil, vinegar and fresh herbs. Water.

Dinner: Choice of chicken, fish or meat with fresh cooked vegetables only. Water.
