From
1975 to 1978 the viewers from more than 50 countries, enjoyed the
naïve adventures of Wonder Woman. Everywhere girls played with a
cape and spinned imitating the beutiful Lynda Carter, or making a
doll fly, a doll with her figure which sold millions. That
character which made Lynda Carter famous and a millionaire. By the
end of 1979 when they decided to cancel the show, neither the
actress nor her wise husband, the manager Ron Samuels, could find
another character that could make forget Wonder Woman. Them Lynda
cultivated her other career singing. We shouldn't forget
that her debut was as a singer when she was 16. |
Lynda was born on June 25, 1954 in Arizona, daughter of Colby
Carter, an antique dealer, and Jean, a wise dealer. Soon she
showed interest for singing, music and dance. But her beauty
marked her destiny. When she was 19 she entered the Miss Phoenix
Contest, and won easily. The it was Miss Arizona, Miss
World U.S.A., and a runner up in the Miss World Contest in London.
Considering this added to he sympathy and her measurements, it
opened the doors of Hollywood just on the right time. ABC bought
the rights of Charles Moulton comic strip Wonder Woman,
which appeared for the first time in 1942. They hired the blonde
actress Cathy Lee Crosby and shot a pilot in 1974, but it failed.
In spite of this they insisted with another actress (Lynda Carter)
for which the pilot aired on November 7, 1975. The success was
inmediate and during the first season (1976-77) Lynda shot 14
episodes, earning U$S 3,500 for each one of them. At the same time
something really important happened in her life: she met manager
Ron Samuels, broke with ABC and made a new deal for her. He made
arrangements for 26 new episodes for the 1977-78 season earning a
million dollars, which subsequently multiplied by three
considering the extra business. But the series came to an end and
Lynda and her husband imposed a long musical parenthesis, and
kicked off a show in Las Vegas for which she earned 200,000... But
time passed on and they decided to divorce and split their
earnings... Now she's her own manager and returns to television
with "Partners In Crime", a series in which she co-stars with Loni
Anderson as detective women. As beautiful as ever, with 31 years,
she hopes to repeat the story of success, and maybe like it
happened before with a new love... |
