Behind
every successful woman is a man ... responsible for it all. At least,
that's what some people would like to believe. And certainly LYNDA
CARTER, TV's brown-haired, blue-eyed, Wonder Woman beauty has been the
object of such beliefs. "People have referred to RON as my Svengali
before," she admits of her husband/personal manager, RON SAMUELS. "I try
not to let it bother me though." |
|
The truth is, LYNDA
had already been signed to star in a series of ABC Wonder Woman specials
long before she met the man in her life. It was after they met that ABC
decided to cancel her show ... and SAMUELS negotiated a new contract for
her with CBS. In the new deal, LYNDA will do 26 full episodes and
reportedly earns a neat $1,000,000. |
|
But LYNDA
maintains that neither SAMUELS, or anyone else besides herself, is
responsible for her fame and fortune. The difficulty is getting people
to accept it. She says: "Some people just have to find a way to justify
a woman's success. That's why |
|
they
tend to say, 'The reason she's accomplished this is because she's being
manipulated by someone else.' That's easier for them than facing the
realization that a woman can make it in this male-dominated business.
The simplest thing for them to believe is that whatever she does is a
direct cause of the man in her life." |
|
Of course, philosophizing like this can sometimes make other
non-feminist women-and men "wonder" about LYNDA, eh? |
