"Crowned MISS ARIZONA-WORLD recently was beautiful Lynda Carter of Tempe, who spent several of her childhood years in Safford. The 21-years old, 5 ft 8¼ in. tall brunette, a professional singer, was chosen from among 16 contestants. She is teh daughter of Colby and Jean Carter, who owned and operated the Pfaff Sewing Center in Safford during the 1960s. The family resided on East 8th Street. Lynda has a number of relatives residing in Safford. As Miss Arizona-World, she is representing the State in the Miss World-USA Program this week in Hampton, Va, and will be guest of the Mexican Government at the International Friendship Festival, Oct. 19-21 in Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta and Mexico City".
