"PHANTOM OF THE ROLLER
COASTER, PART 1" Air Date: September 4,1979. In what
plays somewhat like a live-action version of a
Scooby Doo mystery, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman finds
herself at the Fun Universe Amusement Park Her
assignment is to help bring down one Harrison Fynch,
who is on the verge of acquiring incredibly
sophisticated surveillance equipment that will allow
him to eavesdrop anywhere in the world and sell that
information to the highest bidder. To accomplish
this, Fynch has decided that he needs to buy the Fun
Universe park as it would serve as the perfect
location for his operations and not a place anyone
would think to look for him. The impediment to this
plan is the owner, Leon Gurney, who refuses to sell
as the park was the result of the dream he shared
with his brother, David, who died in Vietnam.
"PHANTOM OF THE ROLLER COASTER, PART 2" Air Date:
September 4,1979. Refusing to take no for an answer,
Fynch continues to devise a means of getting the
park, and decides to use rumors of a horrible
creature that is hiding out there. This creature, it
turns out, is actually Leon's brother, David, who
did not die in Vietnam, but was horribly burned
through a napalm accident and has been secretly
hiding under the park ever since. Befriended by an
orphan boy named Randy, the duo work with Wonder
Woman to stop Fynch and save the park In the end,
David, who has been in hiding because of his
appearance, must decide whether or not he should do
as Wonder Woman suggests, which is come back into
the world and into the arms of those who love him.
*** A cornucopia of sci-fi guest stars! first, Marc
Alaimo, who portrays one of Fynch's goons, would go
on (as many Wonder Woman guest stars did) to appear
in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, guest starring in the
recurring role of Cardassian Gul Dukat. Jared Martin
(Leon and David), who genre fans probably remember
from the syndicated War of the Worlds, and Ike
Eisenmann (Randy) previously worked together on the
short-lived Fantastic Journey television series, and
Eisenmann would eventually go on to co-star in Slot
Trek II: The Wrath of Khan as Scotty's nephew, Peter
Prescott. "Phantom of the Roller Coaster" was the
final episode of Wonder Woman.". |
