LYNDA CARTER BIOGRAPHY
Wonder Woman in the ABC Television Network's "The New, Original Wonder Woman".
It's no idle compliment to say that Lynda Carter, star of "The New, Original Wonder Woman," produced by Warner Bros. Television in association with the Douglas S. Cramer Company, is one of the most beautiful women in the world. It's a fact confirmed by a succession of beauty titles including Miss World U.S.A. in 1973. And television viewers will see why she won so many beauty contests when "The New, Original Wonder Woman" airs on Friday, November 7, at 8:00 p.m. ET on the ABC Television Network.
The willowy, dark haired beauty from Phoenix, Arizona, has a penchant for being in the right place at the right time, a gift which landed her the coveted role in the re-creation of Charles Moulton's world-famous comic book character Wonder Woman. Lynda, in fact, was totally unaware that Warner Bros. Television and Douglas S. Cramer were painstakingly looking at photos, talking to, and testing a variety of tall, beautiful girls in an effort to cast the title role. It was the talent agency of Witzer and Small that sent her to The Burbank Studios to test for Larry Gordon's Columbia production of the Irving Wallace novel, "The Fan Club." She didn't get that part, but Gordon was so impressed by her poise and beauty that he called up his old friend Doug Cramer to suggest that Lynda be tested for the role of Wonder Woman. Warner Bros. Television, Cramer and the ABC-TV Network soon agreed that Lynda Carter was "The New, Original Wonder Woman."
Physically, Lynda is truly a Wonder Woman. She is a strikingly fresh beauty with large, soft eyes that run to blue, green and gray, depending on the colors around her. She stands 5'8 1/2" tall in her stocking feet and weighs a slender 126 pounds. Lynda has all the instincts of a natural athlete and is superbly coordinated, having studied at the London School of Ballet off and on for 10 years.
She's the youngest of three children and was born and raised in Phoenix. There she attended the Arcadia Titans High School where her classmates voted her Most Talented Student for her many singing and dancing leads performed throughout her high school career. She later attended Arizona State University for a semester, but left to pursue a singing career with her debut coming at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas.
After touring for three years as a vocalist, Lynda paused between engagements in her home town. Just to pass the time, she entered her first beauty competition in that city's participating pageant of the international Miss World contest. In one short month, she'd won the city title, the subsequent Miss Arizona contest and finally became Miss World U.S.A. She was then sent LYNDA CARTER (Continued...) to London where she placed in the finals and was proclaimed one of the most beautiful girls in the world.
Following her beauty triumph in 1973, Lynda moved to Los Angeles to study acting with Lieux Dressler and later with Charles Conrad. Before landing her starring role as "The New, Original Wonder Woman," Lynda had made television appearances in one episode of "Nakia" and in a pilot film entitled "Shamus." She also made an appearance on ABC-TV's "Wide World of Entertainment" in September of 1973 to relinquish her Miss World U.S.A. crown to the new winner.
Lynda is a vegetarian and admits to a passion for Mexican cuisine. Despite the emergence of her career as an actress, Lynda's interest in music is unabated. She loves to compose and write the lyrics for many of the songs she sings.
