Wonder Woman is one of TV's most super of the "super ladies" like The Bionic Woman and the trio of Charlie's Angels. And LYNDA CARTER, the shapely actress who portrays Wonder Woman, certainly has all the qualifications to play one of the tube's super ladies...

A former beauty pageant winner, LYNDA more than amply fills her character's "wonder" of a costume-to the delight of millions of male fans. But perhaps even some of the boys were wondering if she was "coming on too strong" when she appeared on ABC's recent Battle of the Network Stars. The "battle"-a sports competition in which teams of stars from all three networks competed against each other for fun and profit-turned into a real battle for all concerned. Some team members-most obviously, NBC's ROBERT CONRADgot "upset" at losing and showed very little "team spirit."

But no one could fault MS. CARTER for her team spirit-she participated in all the meets and scored rather spectacularly in the swimming competition. She helped the ABC team win the top score for the entire event, but some "spectators" couldn't help faulting LYNDA's very revealing swimsuit. One TV critic couldn't help wondering aloud if "this kind of 'openness' encourages a healthy attitude-toward sports, at least!"

That kind of "speculation" prompted an immediate response from LYNDA herself. "How can people say things like that?" the buxom Wonder Woman complained to one reporter. "My God! I was participating in a swimming race. What am I going to wear? A hoop skirt? Just because I won a beauty contest a few years ago, I don't feel I should be nailed down on a charge of `exploiting' my body now.

"I'm an actress now. I don't have to show my body off gratuitously to make people tune in. I think we're all beyond that kind of thing today!" And, believe us, LYNDA was indeed "coming on strong" when she said that!
