We
caught Lynda Carter in action in New York's Central Park, enjoying a
rolier skating workout. "It's my kind of exercise," says Lynda. "It's
fun!" At left, Lynda demonstrates some stretches to limber up muscles,
prevent injuries. "I wouldn't roll without doing them first." You
shouldn't althad From top: a good stretch for the hip joint; next, one
to get the thigh muscles ready; third, a stretch for the back and legs
(make sure to use the toe stop on the skates for balance); and last, a
great flex for ankles and legs. When doing these stretches start off
slowly-three times on alternate sides, then gradually increase to eight
times. |
Mention Lynda Carter and
two words inevitably come to mind Wonder Woman! "I loved Wonder Woman,"
says Lynda. "I speak of her as another person, a dear friend. She was
great, and I had great fun meeting her!" That character, seen on TV in
over a hundred countries, catapulted Lynda into worldwide stardom. On
the way to becoming Wonder Woman, she won the Miss World-USA title in
1973, as well as the title "The Most Beautiful Woman in the World." Now
Lynda's exploring more avenues for her singing, acting and dancing
talents, all of which she does very well. She's completed her second
record album, performs regularly in Las Vegas, and will star in a
dramatic three-hour telefeature this spring on CBS-TV called The Last
Song, "something l'm really excited about," says Lynda. Where does she
get all the energy? "I work at it, believe me. It doesn't come as easily
as Wonder Woman doing one of her stunts! Exercise is vitalthe more you
do it, the better you look, the more energy you have. But I have to be
motivated. My newest craze is roller skating. It's so big here in
California. I guess the reason I like it so much is it's fun, it's
colorful, it's great for the legs, and it gets you places!" Lynda and
her husband/manager, Ron Samuels, live on a ranch in the Malibu
Mountains where Lynda has access to another favorite pastime-horseback
riding. "That, and walking and running with my dogsclears the mind!" As
Wonder Woman, Lynda seemingly had boundless strength and endurance.
Thinking back, she laughs about it. "People thought I got some workout,
leaping from buildings, running for miles. Not really-l'd run about 30
feet, stop, do it again, stop-film it just so. Those stunts didn't add
up to much. I always had to exercise conscientiously and still do. Body
stretches start my day, even before I get out of bed. From then on, I
keep active and try to get rigorous exercise in." What about diet?
"That's the million-dollar question. I diet constantly. I watch my
carbohydrates and if I go on an eating binge, I compensate the next day.
I also drink lots of water. Luckily, l'm not a sweet-lover-sugar tends
to depress me. My one weakness is Mexican food. l'm part Mexican and
have had my recipes handed down. I love to whip up Mexican dishes once
in a while." Lynda's gusto for doing all the things she loves to do is
endless. "My mom always told me I had a lot of spunk. I guess l'll never
stop using it!" |
