Article: Lynda Carter and her life after Wonder Woman.

Author: Nadien Blanc.
Country: France.

By choice or by chance, one can upset her destiny. To become a star or an outcast. Glimpsed recovers those that followed the wrong way. And those that would redo the path well.

Lynda Carter: "My children look at Friends and X-Flies. But Wonder Woman makes them laugh" a lot.

In red and lamé bustier and starry shorts, Lynda Carter was the Wonder Woman of the television, kitsch and sexy justice maker of the America of the seventies. Today, heroine for her only family, she dedicates herself to the resourceless. Wonder destiny.

Not far from the alley of gigantic palms symbolizing the clean, rich and conservative America of Beverly Hills, Lynda receives me at her agent in a Victorian style lounge. She is between two planes, and me, parked on Rodeo drive, I don't have either time to lose. The most famous redeeming some small screen is a hurried and vegetarian woman, who doesn't drink or smoke. In 1976, "cast" in the starry banner. Wonder Woman hid a strong woman. At 48 years, she is ready to take the service. Interview follows.

Nadine Blanc: Why did the public like Wonder Woman so much?

Lynda Carter: Because it is the  queen of the Amazons, a "wonder woman" in literal translation. Secretary as a civilian, she becomes the magic lasso justice maker when someone needs her. Created in 1942, Wonder Woman is to the origin a character of anti-Nazi propaganda, that's the meaning of the American flag.

What was her image as a woman?

Outside of The Bionic Woman, Wonder Woman was the first heroine who embodied the romanticism, the straightforwardness, at time, honesty, courage, all these values are today outmoded. She was a symbol for all women who suffer in silence. Without questioning herself of it, she greatly contributed to the woman's emancipation in the screen.

Are you a feminist?

Simply a woman, combative and passionate. And I like the roles of strong women. In 1996, I shot two movies: A Paryer In The Dark, I embody a widow who sacrifices herself to educate her children, and in When Friendship Kills, I am a schoolgirl's mother in difficulty

And your mother's role in life?

I am very dedicated... and I am very protective. I left Malibu with Bob, my husband, a financial adviser whose cabinet had to be close to Washington, Maryland, close to the Potomac stream.

Where were you born?

In Arizona. I am a girl of the Far-West, where took place all big events of the conquest of the country. I don't have really townswoman's mentality. Over there, Wonder Woman is well far from my preoccupations...

And your children, what do they think of Wonder Woman?

Jamie is thirteen years old, Jessica eleven. My children look at Friends and X-Files. But Wonder Woman makes them laugh a lot. Me also. I even kept some relics like the belt and the tiara.

What memories do you keep of the filming of the series?

Three years of a fierce work but beneficial. To raise at 4 o'clock in the morning, intense physical practice, somersaults on trampoline. Wonder Woman, for me it was an immense popular success due to the public.

How did you manage this success?

In the operations of promotion, the sessions of dedication, people walked on the spot themselves to approach me. When the media sulked the series. I wonder why the series has never been classified in the big 25 of the best programs.

How did you have started?

I have been elected Miss Phoenix, then Miss Arizona, Miss U.S.A., Miss World finally, in 1973. At my 13 years, my grandfather choreographer hired me in his troop. I recorded some shows, an album with Paul Anka, musical comedies... until Wonder Woman.

Did you made another series?

Yes. I played in Hawkeye [Set bought by TF1, NDLR] with Lee Horsley. But I won't enter anymore into a set taking me too much time.

Why?

I 'm busy with my family. And then, I took in charge various humanitarian associations. Today, I dedicate myself to the orphans and to the abandoned children.

If you had to do it again?

Today, I wouldn't say no to an ultimate adventure of Wonder Woman, because I can wear the bustier without blushing!
