Lynda in her last season's Wonder Woman costume.Lynda on her wedding day. A story about Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman. These two TV strong weren't strong enough in last season's ratings and lost their jobs at ABC-TV. But like true superpeople, they didn't give up. Both have new series at other networks this season.
Wonder Woman was first dreamed up as a cartoon character in 1942. That was during World War II. Wonder Woman used her super strength to help with the war for America. For many years after that, wonder Woman was popular as a comic book character. It wasn't until 1974 that she made it to the TV screen. In 1974 the role of Wonder Woman was played by an actress named Cathy Lee Crosby. people who remember that early show say Cathy just didn't look the part.
Then the show was recast, with Lynda Carter playing the title role. Everyone agrees that she was perfectly cast as Wonder Woman. She is tall and very beautiful. (she was once Miss World-USA). The new Wonder Woman show starring Lynda appeared on ABC-TV in November 1975. It was shown on ABC all last season. The show became popular but not popular enough. When ABC-TV planned this year's shows they decided to drop Wonder Woman. Lickily CBS came to the rescue. The CBS-TV show has been renamed "The New Adventures of Wonder Woman." And Lynda got a brand new costume.
The Bionic Woman series was even more popular than wonder Woman last season. And the star of the show, Lindsay Wagner, won an "Emmy" award for her acting in the series. But ABC-TV had more good programs that it had room for. As a result, Bionic Woman, like Wonder Woman, was dropped. However, it appears on NBC this season. Just to make the show a bit different, a bionic dog was added. You can see the dog Max, on page 7. However, Jaime Somemrs is her old super self. She can still run at 60 miles an hour, lift a ton, and hear a whispered conversation from one mile away.
An island in the mysterious Bermuda Triangle is Wonder Woman's home. The island is ruled by a queen (Wonder Woman's mother) and all the people are women. At home Wonder Woman is Princess Diana. When she comes to our world she is just plain Diana Prince. If you've seen the show you know that Wonder Woman's gold belt gives her superhuman strength. her bracelets can stop bullets. And her crown works like a super-boomerang.
When Lynda Carter is playing Wonder Woman she really does seem like a fearless superperson. Last May she and her manager, Ron Samuels, were married. As Lynda came down the stairs to her wedding she looked very beautiful. As you can see in the picture, she also looked very beautiful. As you can see in the picture, she also looked a little bit scared. We guess that out of costume, Wonder Woman is human.
