Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, Lyle Waggoner as Major Steve Trevor. WONDER WOMAN (1975, ABC) debuted as a made-for-TV feature starring Cathy Lee Crosby. When it failed to win over an audience, the network recast the title role, making Lynda Carter its new superperson. This time, it caught on and continues to appear as a semi-regular series in the 1976-1977 season. The show's creators opted for an action format in order to avoid the campiness of the old Batman series. Hard as they try, the camp aspect does creep in from time to time. But the show is all good fun and Ms. Carter has some gusty women's movement speeches. Wonder Woman's sweetheart, Major Steve Trevor, is well played by Lyle Waggoner. Beatrice Colen appears as Etta Candy and Richard Eastham is General Blankenship. In the fal of 1976, Wonder Girl, played by Debra Winger, joined the superheroine.
